The original idea was to take a walk to Chinatown, practice photography and acquire some jerky at my favorite joint, Malaysia Beef Jerky. Things took a little bit of a turn on Bayard, where I spotted a line of locals in front of the Yee Li Restaurant. Queensashy teaches that the line of locals is always a good sign, and that's how I ended up in a possession of half a pound of roasted pork and the equal amount of pork spare ribs.

Meditation on Food + Lobster Avocado Panini
I wake up to grey and gloomy morning skies. Hello people, it’s August and day by day New York looks and feels more like Seattle. As I sip my morning tea, before heading to office, I turn to Facebook to see what the friends are up to. Nothing fights gloominess like a little vibe of friendship in the air. Well, it looks like the friends have been having some pretty swanky moments lately, and my Facebook newsfeed is overflowing with photos of glorious vacation places: Capri, Mykonos, Cuba, some more Greek islands, Sicily, Turkey, St. Tropes, even more Greek islands…

The Family Heirlooms: The Sweetheart's Eye Cookies
I am flipping idly through my mom’s notebook of cookie recipes and I am having a jolly good time. My mom’s notebook is like a trip down the memory lane, pages and pages in neat handwriting, hundreds of notes and clippings stashed inside. One can always figure out the trusted recipes, pages worn out, “illustrated” with splatters of butter and sugar syrup, and an occasional chocolate fingerprint. But the best part are the names. The Drink of the Moment
Today is an auspicious day. I won the food52 cooking contest. And I won $7 playing Powerball! I did chip in $20, but it does not matter, a win is a win. (In case you were wondering, the winning dish is Spice Merchant Cauliflower Couscous. And in case you were wondering what possessed me to play Powerball at the first place, well that's a topic for a separate post.)
